REMEMBERING NEPAL
APRIL 25, 2015 — A historical day to remember. I cannot believe how quickly time passes us by! Three years ago today, the 8.0M Gorkha Earthquake struck Nepal as I was boarding my plane home from a three-week photography expedition w/ @southerncrossgalleries & @timvollmerphotography. It killed nearly 9,000 people & injured 22,000. I was among the lucky, but a bit outta sorts upon my return home. For reasons even I can’t fathom, I neglected my photography for quite some time; like THREE YEARS time! Well, today I’ve made a decision... to rid the excuses & recover my precious memories, just as this beautiful country recovered from the quake. Little slice of advice for fellow creatives: never neglect your art. Mine has recently become my world & it’s about time I get my priorities straight. Accountability is key. Every Wednesday, I’ll now be posting on my blog as I reminisce over this incredible journey. & in between, when I’m feeling extra motivated, I’ll be sending random shots into the Instagram world! Peep my new hashtag #SMALLGBIGW to keep up w/ all of my travel shenanigans, past & present. I’m excited to share w/ you guys & I hope you’re just as intrigued to follow along!
I don’t wanna talk about the earthquake today. That’s all Mother Nature forced me into when she robbed my joyous homecoming. The reason this trip is so iconic for me is because it was my very first international venture, & the very first time I truly challenged myself as a photographer. Today I wanna remember the smiles, the colors, the thrill, the adventure, the warmth, & the magic... that is Nepal. Scroll right for a little taste of what’s to come!
